Water Heaters
Type of Water Heaters
Typically, a water heater is out of sight, out of mind — people only think about it when there is an issue. Your water heater is responsible for heating all water in the home for showering, cooking, and cleaning.
Water heaters can be powered by either gas or electricity, depending on the type of energy available in your home.
The two most common types of water heaters are traditional and tankless:
- Traditional water heater. This type of water heater is commonly found in most homes. Water is heated and stored in a tank until a user demands hot water.
- Tankless water heater. Using high-powered burners to quickly heat cold water as it is needed, this system is the most energy-efficient water heater option.

Choosing the Right Water Heater
There are several factors involved in finding the right water heater for your home. Most importantly, you’ll want to consider your hot water usage and whether your current water heater is meeting your needs. Does your family have to adjust schedules to ensure everyone can take a hot shower? If so, it may be time to upgrade to a water heater with a larger capacity or consider tankless technology. Are your energy bills too high? Be sure to consider the efficiency rating of your next water heater as it will have an impact on your annual operating expenses.
